Helensville is a historic river town at the southern end of the vast Kaipara Harbour, about fifty kilometres north west of central Auckland. It grew up in the 1860s as a port for the kauri timber trade and took its name from Helen's Villa, a settler's cottage built on the riverbank. Now part of greater Auckland's rural northwest, it serves the surrounding farming district and draws visitors to its heritage buildings and nearby hot pools.
